How to Handle Plan B: The 80/20 Rule

One of the most important lessons an athlete can learn from sports is the necessity to pivot from the original plan, make adjustments, and proceed with confidence even though Plan A didn’t work out. Over and over in life we make plans based on assumptions and make hypothetical decisions about theoretical scenarios — only to find that situations never go exactly how we envisioned, and then we adjust accordingly. If you look back, you’ll likely notice how much time, energy, and effort that’s wasted trying to make plans and consider choices, only to see all of that cognitive work fall by the wayside when faced with whatever the reality of the circumstances are at the time.
